LLPD project in Inner Mongolia, China01.02.2021
These 2 overhead lines are located in China’s north-west region considered to be a very droughty region. However during the rain season (from May to September), the lightning density increases drastically. The many mines located in this area always need power for production and safety also during this season but as the overhead lines are the highest points around and as the ground resistivity is high, the lightning strikes tend to trip these feeders which has costly and hazardous consequences. Thankfully this is exactly the job meant for the Streamer LLPDs. They can avoid issues and outages due to lightning strikes even in these difficult conditions.
Most of the installation was finalized within 2019 and already during 2020, the customer could see the positive effects of the LLPDs and became very satisfied.
Before the installation, there was an average of 2 trip-outs yearly due to lightning.
After the installation, during 2020, no trip-out occurred.
We are looking forward to new projects in this challenging region!
